Before he took over the world as the most important athlete of all time and a warrior for social change, Jackie Robinson was a curiosity who was the first black player to sign a professional contract to play on a white team. Pictured here a few months after signing that contract, he was at Spring Training with the Montreal Royals before he ever had an official at bat in the professional ranks! Seen here picking out a bat and posing for the camera, this is one of the earliest images of Robinson after breaking the color barrier that we have ever seen and the wire caption on the front tells the historic tale! Photo also has an important file date on the back of March 5, 1946!
