1959 Was a banner year for the Green Bay Packers. A team that had wallowed in mediocrity for years, Vince Lombardi was an unlikely candidate to turn the franchise around, but when he was introduced in February 1959 to take over the helm, there was cautious optimism. A few days after accepting the job, Lombardi appeared at the Milwaukee Athletic Club to field questions and concerns about the direction of the club. Who knows what the atmosphere in the room was like, but it appears Lombardi was in a good mood and the Packers fans should have been too. Lombardi would not only save the team and franchise but become one of the most successful coaches of all time. While this press conference is largely forgotten today, we offer a rare photograph from local photographer Niels Lauritzen who attended that day and snapped this important gem of Green bay Packers history! Almost certainly the only photograph struck from the negative and absolutely the first time it has ever been offered for sale, this is a unique new discovery from the dawn of Packers dominance and an example that presents well with a couple of creases on the lower left corner area.
