While "The Catch" is one of the greatest moments in Baseball history, VERY few original photos of the moment were taken and even fewer developed off the original negative (most were sent via wire transmission for instant use in papers the next day). This example is a clean and crisp sweeping view of the moment it all happened with Mays holding the ball a second after the catch, hat falling off, and starting his turn toward the infield to throw the ball back in. Impressive clarity and a true piece of American Sports History, this dates to the late 1950's and possibly within the five year period for a vintage 1 but we think it is from about 1959-60 and are calling a very old Vintage 2! Note the stamp on the back is a pre-zip code United Press example that dates it to before 1963!
