Possibly the most underrated hitter of all time, Hugh Duffy put up numbers that will never be approached again. In 1894 he put up a .440 batting average which is almost mind numbing to think about, but he also sandwiched that with .363 and .353! When it came time for his hometown Boston Red Sox to pioneer the use of Hitting Coaches in Baseball, who better than Duffy to lead the charge! Pictured here in his role as batting coach for the Red Sox, Duffy stands in full uniform and showing his batting stance for the camera. One of the only images of its kind we know of, this is a beautiful photograph in beautiful condition. A true rarity!
