After the 1938 World Series was wrapped up and Lou Gehrig headed home, he had to feel like he had several years left in the game. While his numbers had started to tail off, he still managed to hit 29 homers and lead the Yankees to the promised land. A few months after this image was taken however, the news that he was dying would come crashing down like a ton of bricks. The offered photograph shows him celebrating a World Series victory for the last time and it is a stark contrast to what lay ahead for Gehrig. An original photograph from 1938 taken by the Associated Press, this is NOT a wire photo as was typed on the back by a collector later (when the world wire photo was a catch all for all photography) and it is a true "vintage 1". Condition and quality are both outstanding.
