1938 Was the final all-star game for Lou Gehrig. He didn't know it yet, but he was already dying of ALS despite battling every day to get better and regain his form. In this touching photograph he helps young teammate Joe DiMaggio get dirty to score the only run for the American League as they would lose the game 4-1. A fantastic image that not only captures the iconic number 4 in his final mid-summer classic, but also represents a veritable passing of the torch as DiMaggio takes center stage for the Yankees. A completely original piece of photography that presents here in fine condition overall, this is the only example of this photo we have ever seen!
