Before he was the 'Say Hey Kid' and before he was ranked as quite possibly the greatest baseball player who ever lived, Willie Mays was a young minor leaguer with the Minneapolis Millers trying to make a big league roster! The offered photo captures Willie in uniform with the Millers and looking apprehensive about the future as he poses for the camera. Very few photographs of Mays in minor league uniform were ever taken (he only played in 35 games for the Millers) and this is quite simply the best we have ever seen in any form. Condition is pretty nice with some stampings and editorial marks on the back from publication and the photo presents in pretty nice shape (one light crease on the lower left is the only major flaw). All things considered, this is the finest image of Willie Mays that exists in our opinion and it is the only original example of this photo we have ever seen.
