1937 Vintage photograph of eager immigrants to the United States as they leaned over the railing of the USS Aquitania to catch a glimpse of New York City after enduring the trek from Europe. What must have been going through the minds of these immigrants as they felt the realization of their dreams of the "promised land" coming true. A powerful work of photography, these people would be heading to Ellis Island and then onto the mainland. Now, almost ninety years later, there are probably hundreds of Americans that can trace their roots to these nameless pioneers.
