1913 Photograph of the famous painting titled "Whistler's Mother" as it sat alongside European masterpieces in Paris, France. It was painted around 1870 but was not on display for most of Whistler's life, until his friends convinced him to show it in Paris. It was well received there but it did not become famous in his homeland until 1932, about twenty years after this photograph was taken. As such, this is actually one of the earliest dated images of the painting on display! Issued by Underwood and Underwood and stamped on the back with a full paper caption that details the history of the masterpiece up to this point, only about forty years after it was painted! The photo has some pinholes from editorial use but otherwise it presents great.
