Overlooked in the history of the Japanese sneak attack on the United States on December 7, 1941 is the fact that while the planning was well underway, so were veiled peace talks between the Japanese and the Americans in Washington. Here we see Saburo Kurusko chatting with Ambassador Nomura as the two pose for photographers. Whether just one, or both were aware of the true intentions of their country will never be known, but the farce meeting is an amazing piece of history that is rarely mentioned. Issued by the Associated Press and stamped on the back with a full paper caption as well dated just two weeks from the attack on Pearl Harbor.
