On the short list of the greatest singers of all time is Jazz icon Billie Holiday. Despite being black and a woman during a time when both were obstacles, nothing held her back and she is as relevant and important today as she was seventy years ago. Despite her fame, images of Holiday are extremely rare. Seen here striking a sexy pose for the photographer, this one is pretty early, dating to the late 1940's. This is an important piece of music history that we are proud to offer here for the first time ever, fresh out of a newspaper archive! The photo would have been an 8x10 publicity photo to promote her records, but the bottom credit line was trimmed off (this happened often in newspaper archives when the image was used for publication). Completely vintage and in nice shape!
