In the era of Ruth and Gehrig, the king of the National League was Mel Ott. He was a prodigious slugger who quietly set records with little fanfare, all of which makes the rarity of this photo off the charts. Ott is seen busting out of the box after hitting a sacrifice fly to drive in Bill Werber in the 3rd inning of a game with the Cubs. While sacrifice flies are not normally a big deal, this one was Ott's 1583rd career rbi, setting the all-time record in the National League. An important piece of baseball history that we have never seen before, this is stamped on the back by Acme and with a full paper caption as well. This is the only example of this photograph we have ever handled and it presents well with some creasing on the upper left corner.
