1922 Dramatic and poignant photograph of baseball star Christy Mathewson who was sick and near death with tuberculosis but came out of exile to help sell Christmas Seals to fight against the disease. While he was hoping for a recovery at the time, the disease would take his life a few years after this photo was taken, only adding to the tragic appeal here. Issued by Underwood and Underwood and with a cool paper caption on the back, this is an artistic work of photography that we have never seen before.
