Despite making the first successful flight in 1903, the Wright brothers still had a ton of work to do and theories about air travel to prove. In October of 1911 they returned to Kitty Hawk (Orville at least, Wilbur could not make the trip) in order to prove several theories about wind gusts and test a new form of "auto pilot." They used the slopes and winds to further their advancements and prove all their assumptions, setting record upon record for staying in the air and riding the updrafts, making this moment one of the greatest in aviation history. The offered vintage cabinet photograph captures Orville Wright sailing high above the earth in his 1911 flight at Kitty Hawk and this appears to be a new discovery as we have not been able to find this exact photograph anywhere online. The back refers to the image as "Orville Wright First Flight" which could be a reference to the return to Kitty Hawk (where the first flight occurred) or his first flight of the day. An incredible and important piece of aviation history that is in great shape and is being offered here for the first time ever!
