The life of Evelyn Nesbit started out like a rags to riches fairy tale, but unfolded like a Greek tragedy. Her looks and personality attracted men and publicity like few before, but she was immature and sexualized at a young age which made her ill equipped to handle it all. After affairs and scandals that loomed her entire adult life, she finally attempted suicide herself in 1926 and is seen here attended by physicians in obvious pain and despair. This is the only image of the scandal we have ever seen and it presents beautifully, in stark contrast to the stunning portraits of Thaw that made her the face of her generation. Issued by Wide World Photos and stamped on the back with a paper caption as well, the photo has some artistic framing from publication (ink on the front) but looks great. A powerful image from one of the most talked about women of her generation.
