Large 1931 portrait photograph of former Olympic star and football icon Jim Thorpe as he looked to turn his fame on the athletic fields into a money maker in Hollywood. He was an alcoholic and broke when this image was taken, but he still had his name and he was hoping that would translate to a job in some movies. While Thorpe did get a few parts as an extra, they were in stereotypical "Indian" roles and beneath a man of his stature as one of the leading pioneers for racial equality in sports. Issued by the Universal Studios and stamped on the back with a nice long typed caption as well. One of the finest images of Thorpe from after his playing career we have ever handled and this is also the one that was used to make his Exhibit football card, making it a cool piece of card history as well! The photo has some wear but it looks great and it comes encapsulated by PSA (Type 1).
