Lot Description  

Dramatic 1945 photograph of a single dead American soldier on Iwo Jima as he was relieved from an earthly hell and delivered to a paradise up above as he gave the ultimate sacrifice during the hardest fought battle of WWII. Dated on the back and stamped from the International News, this is one of the best images from WWII we have ever handled and one that belongs in a museum or gallery. The photo has a crease on the upper right but it looks great regardless.
