Vintage c. 1862 photograph of Henry D. Clayton, leading general from the Confederate States of America and taken during the Civil War. The photo is actually an image of Clayton in street clothes, but a Civil War artist has skillfully painted a Confederate uniform beneath his head for publication which makes this as much a Civil War work of art as it does an important photograph of a famous general.
