Josephine Baker was perhaps the most liberated and important woman of the 20th century. Despite being black and a woman, the two things that would back pretty much anyone in the early 20th century from success, she overcame it all and became a superstar. She was one of the first non-white sex symbols, a prominent dancer, actress, social activist, and pilot! This is one of the only photographs of Baker in her airplane that we have ever seen, issued b a French photographer and with a long and detailed typed caption on the back. The photo is in nice shape overall with note to a light crease across the center from news room use.
