Thelma Todd was one of the earliest of the blonde bombshells, a popular and seductive actress, businesswoman, and a tragic figure in Hollywood history. She is famous today for both her wildly popular restaurant in Hollywood and for starring in two of the most famous Marx Brothers films of the era (Monkey Business and Horse Feathers). She was at the top of the world when she was either murdered, committed suicide, or died accidently in 1935 (depending on who you ask). The result is that her photography is rare and her signature among the most coveted in Hollywood history, selling for over $1000 on a scrap of paper! The offered 8x10 studio photograph is inscribed and dated from 1926 by Todd who gave it to one of the cameramen on her film named Eddie Hyland. The photo is from Hyland's family and is being offered here for the first time ever. The important inscription reads, "To Eddy, A rival under certain conditions for my fair hand (he he) Thelma Todd '26." It is not too far fetched to think there might have been some sexual tension between Eddie Hyland (who was young, handsome, and just getting started as a Hollywood cameraman) and Thelma Todd considering the intimate nature of the inscription! One of the most important autographed photos we have ever handled!
