In 1920 Olive Thomas, the most beautiful young star of the silver screen and the Ziegfeld Follies, died in Paris. She had ingested a large amount of her husband's syphilis pills and it caused kidney failure. The fact that her husband was the unfaithful and volatile brother of Mary Pickford however, caused many to question whether the death was accidental. Regardless of the truth, Thomas' death became one of the first sensational stories in Hollywood history and she is a cult-like figure to this day, one hundred years later. The offered c. 1916 studio photograph is one of the only images of Thomas we have ever offered from her time with the Ziegfeld Follies and it presents beautifully. Stamped on the front (embossed) by the Campbell Studios and also from the Ziegfeld Follies Midnight Frolic! A rare and important early piece of Hollywood history, this is a clear image that is being offered here for the first time ever, fresh out of a newspaper archive and with crystal clarity and just some light corner wear and a few light creases being the only flaws.
