Despite the color barrier in baseball officially being broken in 1947 by Jackie Robinson, each and every team besides the Dodgers had to go through their own struggle for integration. The man who would do the task for the Boston Braves, and for the entire city of Boston, was Sam Jethroe. Here he appeared in uniform for the first time during spring training along with his moral support, Manager Billy Southworth and coach John Cooney. An important image in context of the fact that four years later, Hank Aaron would change the game forever on this franchise! This is the only example of this photograph we have ever seen in the hobby and it's importance can not be overstated, especially since the Boston Red Sox would be the last team to integrate!
