In 1962 the former Negro League superstar Buck O'Neill broke the color barrier in baseball as it pertained to coaches and managers. He was signed by the Chicago Cubs before the 1962 season to be the black first coach in major league history. The offered photograph is stamped on the back by Barney Sterling and is dated on the front from the ground breaking season. Despite some discoloration from moisture, the image presents pretty well and is of incredible historical importance. Offered here for the first time ever fresh out of massive Cubs collection.
