While Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier for major league baseball, every other team besides Brooklyn had to have their own man become the first on that team to break the barrier. For the Philadelphia Athletics, it was Negro leaguer Bob Trice. In 1953 he suited up for the Athletics and took the mound on September 19th. The offered image is dated from spring training the next season (but the image was likely a 1953 photo they used for a story) in Athletics uniform and is only the second image of Trice we have ever handled in Athletics uniform. An undervalued pioneer, the image presents here in fantastic condition, grading a 10/10! This is also the photograph used to make Trice's 1955 Rodeo meats card and is the only example we have ever seen in the hobby.
