During WWII, America and China were intense allies who worked together to defeat the Japanese, but today that relationship is strained to say the least. This photo from 1949 shows what we feel is the genesis of these tensions. Taken just four years after the end of WWII, the photograph shows students from Nanking as they ride around in a jeep and sport both pro-communist and anti-American signs as protest. A bold image from the International News that could actually show the birth of anti-American sentiment in China that remains to this very day! An important piece of history that we have never seen before!
