After only a few months in office, John F. Kennedy was faced with one of the most tense moments in United States history. With Russian missiles pointed at the American mainland only a few miles away in Cuba, the "Bay of Pigs" seemed as though Nuclear War would soon be a reality. In a more civil time, Kennedy did the natural thing, calling on his predecessor Dwight Eisenhower for advice. This iconic 1961 photograph by Paul Vathis of the Associated Press captures the two as they walk and spend a few quiet moments together at Camp David discussing the moments events. While not the actual shot that won the Pulitzer Prize for photography, this is by the same photographer and at the same event, just taken a few second before or after the famous image. A completely original photograph and stamped with the date on the front.
