1944 Incredible vintage photograph of American soldiers raising the flag of their country over German fortifications, presumably on the beachhead of Normandy after the D-Day invasion. While there is a paper caption on the back, it has faded to the point where only a few words can be made out, but one of which is "German Fortifications." There is a handwritten "Normandy" and it certainly appears to be the case as this certainly appears to be one of the elevated machine gun nests that were perched atop the beachhead, but more research is needed. Issued by Acme and stamped on the back. A huge new discovery from the days just after D-Day!
