1936 Photograph of the great Jack Johnson, early and controversial black Heavyweight Champion of the World. He was the subject of more racial abuse and scrutiny than any other athlete of his time and the ironic thing is that in THIS photo he training the "New Great White Hope" Charles Kosior to fight against Joe Louis. Interesting photograph with so many social overtones! Condition is not bad with note to creasing and handling wear from editorial use (see scan). We have seen a few images of Johnson with Kosior, but this is the first example of this pose we have ever seen. Issued by the International News and stamped on the back with a detached paper caption as well. The quality of the image is strong despite the handling wear.
