Original 1920 photograph of young rookie Joe Sewell as the young shortstop was listed as succeeding Ray Chapman who had died the previous month. Issued by the Keystone View Company and stamped on the back with a paper caption, the photo retains tremendous clarity and contrast despite a crease and some pinholes from editorial use. This photo predates all of Joe Sewell's rookie baseball cards and captures the man who filled in for Ray Chapman, wearing a black armband symbolic of his teammates death! Quite possibly the greatest image of Sewell on the planet!
