1920 Incredible photograph of around eight members of the Hilldale Daisies Negro League baseball club as they warmed up before a game with the Parkesburg Iron Company team in Pennsylvania. The photo is an impressive slice of baseball history, not just because it pictures some of the best and rarest Negro Leaguers of the era, but because of the social context of the crowd and body language of the men. The Hilldale dugout is captured behind the players and it also features several small black boys enamored by the presence of THEIR baseball heroes, many of whom are probably watching professional black ballplayers for the first time. Similarly the front row is all young black men, eager to root for their team and their race to a victory. The players seem at ease, surrounded by familiar faces in a hostile world. While the players are not identified, they could easily be researched as we know for a fact this is a 1920 game as it came from a large and well documented scrapbook. We have sold one other image from the book of the great Louis Sandtop in the past and he is likely in this image as well. Condition and quality are both perfect and this is being offered here for the first time ever! A truly important new discovery!
