On May 25, 1961, President John F. Kennedy declared that America would send a man to the Moon and back. This photo, taken two months earlier, shows the ground work of that promise in motion as the first Douglas Aircraft Delta Rocket was loaded onto a launch pad at Capa Canaveral. Stamped on the back by several archives and companies, before NASA, this photo is one of the earliest in what could be considered the "Space Race" that is known to exist.
