In an era before strict tests and guidelines regarding the sex of athletes, there was a champion who broke barriers and provided nearly a century of controversy and debate. Stella Walsh was born in Poland and broke about every track record there was. An Olympic champion who was murdered in 1980 and upon examining the body it was discovered that she was not entirely a woman. Posed here right before the 1932 Olympic games along with the greatest female athlete of the era, Babe Didrikson, this is an impressive image in fine condition that is an important piece of sports history. This has been lightly glued to extra paper for publication so the issuer is unknown, but the file stamp and date are present cementing this as a vintage original. Condition and quality are both outstanding.
