Beautiful c. 1910 studio photograph of boxing legend John L. Sullivan in formal attire and striking a regal pose. Stamped on the back by photographer A.P. Risser of Chicago. The photo is crystal clear and bold with pinholes at the corners being the only flaws beyond some normal news-room handling wear at the corners. One of his greatest post-career images we have ever handled and possibly unique, offered here for the first time ever fresh out of a newspaper archive! The photo has a 1912 files stamp but this is when the Central Press started stamping all their existing images and we feel based on the paper and age of Sullivan, that this is closer to a 1908-1910 image.
