The 1951 Giants were quite a team and for the first time in the history of the game, they were led by a trio of black superstars. This image, taken only four years after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier, features the three sluggers of the Giants who not only terrorized the league but represented a complete change in the fabric of the game. Willie Mays, Monte Irvin and Hank Thompson all pose in uniform and with their bats ready to strike fear into the hearts of the Yankees on the eve of the World Series. A beautiful clear image in fine shape, this is an important image that is the only example we know of in the world!
