The 1926 scandal involving Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker in which the superstars were implicated in a gambling ring was a huge deal. In the aftermath of the Chicago Black Sox scandal which was only six years old at the time, it had to feel like another black eye for the game of baseball. Cobb would appear at the offices of Judge Landis in early 1927 and seen here, he was mobbed by reporters trying to get an angle on the huge story. Eventually, the two would be reinstated, but on this day it seemed Cobb would join the ranks of Joe Jackson as a banished superstar. A unique new discovery from NEA and dated on the back, this is being offered here for the first time ever!
