Original 1918 statuesque batting photograph of young Red Sox slugger, Babe Ruth, as he busts out of the box and is captured in spectacular suspended animation. When this picture was taken during Spring Training 1918, it was becoming clear that he was being underutilized by only hitting on the days he pitched and he would find himself playing some outfield too. He would win his first home run title by the end of the season with a whopping 11 round trippers and although he was a bona fide star, nobody could have predicted that he would transform the game and the entire world in the process! Nobody was a bigger star than Ruth and he was a household name all over the globe. His feats are legendary and his personality bigger than life, but before all that, he was a pitcher and part time outfielder for the Boston Red Sox! The offered photograph from the International News is off the original glass plate negative (an extreme rarity and one of only a few that shares this distinction) and was issued in the early 1940's. The photo has the look and feel of a 1918 original and is only about 25 years removed from being so. The photo comes with a full PSA letter identifying the spectacular fact that this was indeed developed off the original glass plate and is being offered here for the first time ever to the public to the best of our knowledge. Condition and quality are both exceptional and this is one of the best examples of this image known to exist!
