Chick Evans was perhaps the first great American golfer, but when this photo was taken in 1912, he was nothing but raw talent. He would establish himself in the years just before WWI, but on this day in 1912, Evans was a 22 year old with talent and nothing else. The offered photograph captures Evans facing the camera and watching his ball while holding his club in the air. While the image is important because of who is on it and the early date, it is also stamped on the back by one of the great early sports photographers of all time, Francis Burke of the Burke and Atwell company. All things considered, this is one of the most important golf photographs we have ever handled and it is being offered here for the first time ever fresh out of a newspaper archive.
