Tom Longboat is one of the most underrated pioneer athletes of the early 20th century. He was perhaps the greatest distance runner of his era, a world champion, and full blooded Native American during a time when this was seen as a novelty through racist eyes more than an accomplishment of overcoming adversity. This is the only original image of the sports pioneer we have ever seen and it is being presented here (Issued by Underwood and Underwood) for the first time ever, fresh out of a newspaper archive. Photo has some pinholes from editorial use and a little wear near the bottom border, but it otherwise looks pretty good.
