The consequences of being the most visible team in America during WWII is the leadership role that came with being a "Yankee." With WWII raging, all able bodied men were expected to participate and for the Yankees it was a sense of national pride. Their stars were not able to sit idly by and watch. Joe DiMaggio, Phil Rizzuto and others were all gone and the biggest star on the team was Stuffy Stirnweiss. War-time images of the Yankees are extremely difficult to find with this being a large and clear example from the International News. While there are a couple creases at the corners, the image presents really well overall.
