The Philadelphia Athletics were great until the Federal League came along in 1914 at which point they became depleted and were a shell of their former glory. For fifteen years they languished in mediocrity, but a core group of young talent led by Lefty Grove, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, Mickey Cochrane and others brought them back to dominance in 1929. It could be argued that the 1929-1931 Athletics were just as good as the famous "Murderers Row" Yankees of 1926-1928! The offered rare aerial photograph, taken from an early blimp high above Shibe Park in Philadelphia, is taken from the sixth and deciding game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The image is one we have never seen before and it presents well with note to a couple small rips from editorial use which you can not see when the image is flattened in a sleeve.
