In 1925, the revolution in Russia was spreading and communism was threatening the way f life in Bulgaria. After a military leader was killed, the communists, funded and supplied by Russia, blew up the St. Nedelya church in Bulgaria at his funeral, killing over 150 people. Here, the three men responsible were hanged publicly, martyr's to a cause that remains powerful and controversial to this day. A rare image of the public execution, three men are atop the scaffold, awaiting their death. One is already swinging, the other has just had the stool removed from beneath his feet, and a third poignantly watches, knowing he was next. A powerful piece of photography from the Kadel and Herbert service and stamped on the back with a full paper caption as well. Photo has pinholes from editorial use but it otherwise remains in nice shape.
