Incredible large photograph from 1919 of the great Smokey Joe Wood. Wood's 1912 season is perhaps the greatest in Baseball History with a 34-5 record and 10 shutouts, but he was overworked and his arm never recovered. Rather than retire he went to the minors to reinvent himself as an Outfielder. It worked! He re-emerged in 1918 with a .296 average and established himself as a bona fide major leaguer. The offered image was taken in the at the beginning of 1919 and it is LARGE for the age. Still showing the pitching form that made him a legend, this photo is aesthetically one of his finest with note to the obvious condition issued from news-room use over 100 years. This is the only example of this photograph we have ever seen.
