In the modern world, all we hear is talk of virus' and vaccines. It consumes our daily life and Covid 19 has changed us all in one way or another. The production of a vaccine in record time and the implementation seems like it is ground breaking technology, but this poignant photograph from 1955 reminds us that this has happened before. In this powerful photograph we see a small child, looking on with nervous anticipation as she views the needle that was about to be plunged into her arm, protecting her from Polio. Issued by the International News and with a huge paper caption on the back, this is from Arthur Sasse, the same photographer who took the famous image of Albert Einstein sticking out his tongue a few years earlier. A work of art, this is a powerful piece of photography that we have never seen before.
