Sweeping c. 1889 action photograph of the New York giants, playing a game at the "original" Polo Grounds in New York. A beautiful image in great shape, you can help date the image by the fact that this is the "original" Polo Grounds which was demolished in 1889 and the fact that the pitcher is in a box instead of a mound, as well as the umpire standing behind the pitcher instead of the catcher. A thin paper image, this was done in the 1890's, so just a few years after the original and issued by Brown Brothers with a later stamp added. We feel very confident in the c. 1898 date of production for this image, making it one of the earliest game action photographs we have ever seen from the major leagues.
