The most famous incident in baseball history was the 1919 World Series in which eight members of the Chicago White Sox were banished for throwing the Series. One of the more obscure members of the group was Fred McMullin whom many thought was pulled in because he was friends with the better players, but in reality he was a key member of the octet! As a part time player, McMullin was given the last week of the season off and he was the teams scout who watched the Reds and single handedly provided the information to manager Kid Gleason to plan the games. The offered batting photo shows him posing as he takes some hacks during the 1917 season (the one that the White Sox won) in full uniform. Taken by Charles Conlon, the back carries his handwritten notes and stamp. Easily one of the best images of this tough player that exists and with exceptional clarity despite some creasing and pinholes from editorial use. There is tape on the back to reinforce the creasing which appears to have broken the paper and separated in spots. Despite the condition issues, the quality is actually pretty nice!
