In 1976 New York City was at it's low point. Crime and tourism were down, buildings were crumbling and a turn to it's former glory seemed impossible. The skyline illuminated here seemed to give a symbol of hope to the nation, that it's former gem would rebound at some point to the former glory of a half century earlier. Indeed New York would make an epic comeback and once again become the center of America. A fantastic image symbolic of the decline and rebound with the lights of the skyscrapers giving hope, issued by the United Press and in nice shape overall.
