George Blanda is one of the most iconic members of the football Hall of Fame. He was the Lou Gehrig of the NFL playing in an incredible number of games over an improbable number of years in professional football. Here however, he was a rookie that was struggling to even get playing time with the Bears. Likely taken in 1949, the photo is at least from 1950 when it was stamped by a newspaper archive, this is the earliest image of Blanda in an NFL uniform known to exist. He was not a regular player until 1952 and did not receive his own football card until 1953 which makes this quite the early "pre-rookie card" image in great condition.
