In 1923 Hank Lavallie was given the opportunity of a lifetime, a tryout with the New York Yankees in what would be their first championship season! Pictured here, beaming with pride is the young man himself, wearing the pinstripes and posing in his Yankee cap. While we have no way of knowing his stats, he would be sent back to the minors from New Orleans (spring training site) and never actually play in a regular season game with the Bronx Bombers. While the game was filled with guys like this, not many of them had their "cup of coffee" with the most famous early Yankees championship squad! This is the only image of Lavallie in uniform with the Yankees known.
