Large 1916 action photograph of Chick Gandil who had come into the league as a star prospect for the White Sox (1910) but then was traded to the Washington Senators where he really became one of the top first basemen in the game. After the 1915 season he was dealt to the Indians where he played only one year before heading back to the White Sox where he became and iconic member of the 1919 Black Sox. This is a rare piece of photography from Charles Conlon that captures Gandil from his lone season in Cleveland and proudly wearing their uniform with no idea that in a few years he would lead a group of gamblers to taint the game of baseball forever. The quality of the image is perfect with a small rip at the top and some wear to the lower right corner being the only flaws. This is one of only a handful of images known picturing Gandil as a member of the Indians and this one has to be the best out there.
