Lot Description  

Important and amazing 1927 photograph from inside the work studio of Gutzon Borglum as he was putting the finishing touches on a sculpture that would be the model for the larger Mt. Rushmore monument. Images of Gutzon Borglum in his studio are VERY rare with this being one of the only ones we have seen. From the files of Underwood and Underwood, this is a unique new discovery that belongs in a museum and offered here for the first time ever!
